Two days until race day and I’m relatively calm.  Not surprising though – there’s an incredible amount of life “stuff” going on in the background and it’s doing a good job of keeping me distracted.  I’m not sure for how much longer though.  The racers are arriving and although it seems a little more low key than most other races, it’ll be hard to ignore the frightening stares from the Preparation H crowd.  Tomorrow will be full on Ironman for sure.

Ironman Arizona Sign

Not really all that much to report.  We arrived yesterday, settled into our bitchin’ hotel  (thanks DC!) and we’ve made our rounds to the various places to stock up and get ready for our big day.  Yes, it’s Ironman, his and her style once again.  Fortunately, we used Monkey Boy (Nick the SAGMonkey) for bike transport which has made life much easier with the two of us racing.

The events for the day included a swim at the ASU pool, awesome!  A bike ride out on 87, checking out the course which seems like it’s really fast.  And I followed it up with a short t-run on the run course which parallels Tempe Town Lake (which where I come from, is a river.  Whatever.).

Have I mentioned that I bought a very expensive digital SLR so that I could keep it in its fancy carrying bag and use my iPhone for taking 99% of my photos?  No?  That’s what I thought.

Anyway.  I’ve been snapping photos with my phone which works better as a camera than a phone but who cares, it’s an Apple product and aren’t we all “fanboys”?

Without further interruption, I bring to you my photo collection from the last 24 hours....

Sounding more like a charity than an area where your animal can pee in an airport, this "Animal Relief" sign made me giggle at how political correctness has extended to a sign telling you where you dog or (I guess) cat can pee or poo without pissing off the TSA.  And speaking of the TSA, if someone were to take said poo and stick it in one of those plastic bins and run it through the scanner, I wouldn't tell.

Jersey Mike's

We didn't eat at Mike's which might make you wonder why I would bother to take a picture of the sign.  This is for my friends Maria and John.  Hey guys, there's hope.  It looks like you CAN escape from Jersey.  "Mike" did it, you can too!  <3

If I had my way, I would chase the sun around the globe.  But I'm sad to report, that's not the life I'm currently living.  In my world, right now, the sun is setting early and not long after we arrived, my friend the sun began his early bedtime and I was illegally snapping a photo while driving...

Tempe Sunset

Yes, I know, it's blurry.  But it was cool and I wanted a photo.  I'm determined to get another.  I went out tonight on foot but it was an overcast day so no such luck.

My crime streak continued last night as I approached this banner and pulled out my phone once again...

Welcome Ironman Arizona

Given my crime streak, you might think this next one was in a similar vain but you would be incorrect.  I decided to pull over to snap a picture of this saguaro cactus which looked like some woodpeckers were going to town on it...
